Ban Ki Moon receives WAGGGS World Citizenship Award

WAGGGS will present UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon with a World Citizenship Award, in recognition of his commitment to, and prioritization of, girls and young women around the world.

The presentation will be made today at a United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) gala dinner in New York, USA.

WAGGGS will also present Secretary General Ban and Mrs. Ban with World Thinking Day pins and badges in recognition of their global leadership in reducing child mortality and ensuring maternal health. These issues form the basis for the World Thinking Day theme for 2013.  

The UNGA event, held as part of the Every Woman Every Child campaign, aims to advance the Global Strategy for Women’s and Children’s health and achievement of the Millennium Development Goals by 2015.

WAGGGS will today announce its commitment to Every Woman Every Child campaign through initiatives that address the underlying causes of child mortality and poor maternal health within its membership.

The World Citizenship Award has previously been accepted by such dignitaries as Nelson Mandela (1996), Mary Robinson (1997), Stephen Lewis (2007) and Wangari Maathai (2007).
