Centenary ambassador- MadagascarWhat has been the highlight for you as a Centenary Ambassador?

One of the highlights has been getting to know many other Centenary Ambassadors and sharing our view on making the world better and how could all the Guides bring their potentials to make a difference to this world.

What have you achieved in your Association/country so far?

Our Member Organization planted trees on a site and then we organized a big event on 10 April 2010. We showed through an exhibition how Malagasy Girl Guides have tried their best to change the lives around and make them a little better. It was also a time for meeting all the Girl Guides in Madagascar and we could exchange views about the celebration.

How do you think you can grow Girl Guiding and Girl Scouting in your community?

I think Girl Guiding and Girl Scouting is a way of life, a state of mind, which is planted in every Guide through the activities that we are doing, like volunteering, working along people around them but not working on their own…

The best way to make Girl Guiding grow is by showing the values and the good deeds that Girl Guides are doing and we may influence and make people reflect upon how being a girl guide can be more valuable than they think.

How will you personally celebrate 10 April 2011?

I will share 100 smiles to all the Guides and people around me. I will also try to share the seeds of trees that I have planted in our garden so that they can grow it in themselves.

Are you planning to start a centenary project to benefit your community? If so, please give details.

In our Member Organization we will try to go to small villages and regions of Madagascar to organize some events for the centenary.

Centenary celebrations 2010- Ballybay, IrelandWhat has been the highlight for you as a centenary ambassador?

So far, it has been the build-up excitement in relation to the centenary programme which began on Saturday 8 January. There is now a great buzz in IGG and our members are looking forward to all the plans for 2011. It has also been working with a great committee of people and developing the programme, the merchandise, the PR material etc.

What have you achieved in your association/country so far?

We held a very successful WAGGGS day on 10th April with the theme of PLANT as the first of our centenary activities. At the same time we introduced a new uniform for Guides, Senior Branch and leaders and changed our logo.

In September our history book “A Hundred Years A-Growing” was launched at the IGG national conference along with an internal launch of the centenary.

How do you think you can grow Girl Guiding and Girl Scouting in your community?

Irish Girl Guides are constantly working on this and are currently working on a membership drive and have a programme called “Ask One! Plus One! in place which is focusing on gaining more leaders. By highlighting the work IGG does in the community through various events like Taster Days, our Outreach programme and local profiling we continually aim to grow our membership. We also hope that our centenary year and our activities throughout 2011 will help to highlight IGG and all our activities.

Are you planning to start a centenary project to benefit your community? If so, please give details.

IGG is supporting two charities throughout 2011 and will fundraise for Barnardos and the Global Girls Fund. These will have a benefit to the community in Ireland and to the girls worldwide. During the year there will be various special events at which fundraising will take place and units can also raise funds through the centenary challenge for these two charities

Nedgly Johamny Salaban Escalona

Brownie Leader, Guider-in-charge of the Youth Committee, Girl Guides Association of Venezuela

Centenary Ambassador- VenezuelaWhat has been the highlight for you as a centenary ambassador?

To work on behalf of so many girls and young women and help them to change their lives. Little by little we are achieving this.

What have you achieved in your association/country so far?

I’ve managed to gather many Girl Guides whom haven’t seen each other in years and many more who didn’t know each other but now maintain a beautiful friendship.

How do you think you can grow Girl Guiding and Girl Scouting in your community?

Showing the activities we do in Girl Guiding and Girl Scouting for our planet and for our community. This year we have participated in sponsored walks to support animals, a healthy heart, fight against breast cancer, etc.

We’ve made ourselves known to people who didn’t know about Girl Guiding and Girl Scouting and didn’t know what activities we were doing and the aims that underpin them.

How will you personally celebrate 10 April 2011?

We will celebrate my personal growth as I will graduate as an Engineer on this day.

Yuko Sagawa

Leader, Girl Scouts of Japan

What has been the highlight for you as a centenary ambassador?

The highlight for me was meeting with members of the AP committee. It was a precious opportunity to talk with the person who works for WAGGGS because I felt that I am a member of WAGGGS and I am chosen to be ambassador.

How do you think you can grow Girl Guiding and Girl Scouting in your community?

In Japan, many young girls don’t have self esteem. But Girl scouting can help the issue through activities. For example, girls felt more self-confidence after they went camping than before. So I think using this effect, we can grow Girl Scouting in my community.

How will you personally celebrate 10 April 2011?

I am planning to celebrate by doing some of activities in activity pack 2011. I am exited about it!
