Young Women's World Forum 2011

The Young Women’s World Forum 2011 (YWWF 2011) took place between 19 and 26 March 2011 at the four World Centres simultaneously.  157 young women from all five regions were represented at the four World Centres.

Young Women’s World Forum 2011This exciting event was the second in a series of events which are part of the global centenary celebrations of Girl Guiding and Girl Scouting. The first Young Women’s World Forum (2010) was organized by Girlguiding UK and the final event will be organized with Girl Scouts of the USA in 2012. The focus for all three events will be the WAGGGS’ Global Action Theme, girls worldwide say “together we can change our world” which addresses the United Nations Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).

The YWWF 2011 programme focused on the 3 following MDGs

  • MDG 1 - “End poverty and hunger”
  • MDG 3 -  “Promote gender equality and empower women”
  • MDG 7 - “Environmental sustainability”

These topics were selected in consultation with young women.

The programme included the opportunity to develop advocacy skills, the design of a process plan for change by each delegate, and field visits with partners and UN agencies. Participants also developed tools for the YWWF 2010 declaration to be advocated to national governments and international government bodies, civil society, WAGGGS and its members.
