238 New minibus for Association transport
Entered on: 22 July 2010
Sri Lanka - Improved transport for volunteers working on community action
The Sri Lanka Girl Guides Association (SLGGA) is seeking £5,000 to replace their current minibus. The bus which the Association has used since 1990 is in a very poor condition. It cannot be insured and is unreliable for traveling long distances. In 2004 with the restructuring of the Association, there are now more provincial meetings and several Officials of the SLGGA are required to attend them. It is essential that the Association has a vehicle of its own to facilitate travel due to poor quality of public transport. The Disaster Management Committee also continues making visits to the Tsunami affected areas as well as the areas for the Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) with whom they work in the North and the East.
This project has been funded in full by the Girl Scouts of Japan.
