WAGGGS’ four World Centres are doing their bit to “Stop the violence – speak out for girls’ rights,” and participating in the ’16 days to make girls heard’ campaign.

Pax Lodge, our World Centre in London, UK, is asking people to create butterflies as symbols of fragility, change and empowerment, whilst Sangam have been using the lotus flower as a symbol of purity, beauty and grace.

'The lotus flower is admired for its ability to rise above muddy waters, which reflects the strength that women have, and that we want to encourage as part of this campaign’. Sangam volunteer

Participants at Our Cabaña have been supporting the campaign during the 16 days by taking part in activities such as ‘the Mexican wave of noise’ to end violence . They have also been running sessions for both girls and adults looking at the issues surrounding violence and the different ways we can raise our own self-esteem. They have collected 300 pledges from eight countries for the campaign.

All of the World Centres will also be participating in the 16 days webinar.

“Between the four World Centres, we have over 9,000 guests come through our doors every year.  If we can encourage all, or even some, of these people to join the conversation and start to speak out and take action to end violence, then we can start to break the silence around this important issue,” said Our Cabaña World Centre manager, Mapi Rubio.

Make your pledge to “Stop the violence- speak out for girls rights.”
