Happy Peace Day!Girls' World Forum

Today is the International Day of Peace and all over the world Girl Guides and Girl Scouts are taking actions to stop the violence and create long-lasting peace.

As part of the Global Truce 2012 Girl Guides and Girl Scouts are taking part in activities to create a world record on peace: the largest gathering of individuals in the name of peace on one day.

  • Rwandan Girl Guides will take part in a radio debate on the importance of young women in ending violence and creating peace
  • Girl Guides in Pakistan will create special Peace Day cards and pass them onto their family and friends
  • A week long Peace Camp will be hosted by the Girl Scouts in Iceland
  • Girl Scouts in USA are creating Peace Pinwheels and displaying them at local community centres
  • Anti-bullying drama workshops with local students will be delivered by Girl Guides in Malawi

It is not too late for you to be part of the world record. Download the WAGGGS Peace Day activity sheet, take an action and then record it in this online form.  It is very important that you record your action on the form so that it can be counted as part of the world record attempt.

Our partners at Peace One Day are hosting the Peace One Day Celebration on 21 September at Wembley Arena. The event will be headlined by Elton John with introductions by Peace One Day Ambassadors, including Jude Law and Peace One Day Founder, Jeremy Gilley. There will also be special contributions from The Elders and the African Union. WAGGGS will be live streaming the concert on our website. Please join us here at 19:30 UK time.
